Picked the app to quit by part of its name and quit unrelated apps too
Computer maintenance
- Situation
- An app has frozen, and the AI is asked to quit just that one.
- What the AI did
- Without checking what it would hit, it ran a command that stops everything whose name partly matches, and stopped unrelated apps along with the frozen one.
- How to ask next time (the operator's example)
- "Before stopping anything, show me a list of everything that method would stop. Stop only the one that froze. If it would also hit anything else, don't stop it; tell me first."
- One question to ask
- Is there a list of everything that method would stop?
- Check it yourself
- On macOS and Linux,
pgrep -fl <name>lists whatpkill -f <name>would stop. Run it first; if more than one line comes back, stop the one process by its ID (kill <PID>) instead. - AI used (month)
